China Southern Expands “Pets on Board” Service to 9 Cities in China, Covering 46 Direct Routes
(Guangzhou, April 15, 2025) To better accommodate the travel needs of pet owners, China Southern has expanded its “Pets on Board” service from April 15. The service was initially launched on the Guangzhou-Shanghai Hongqiao route and has now been extended to 7 more cities: Beijing Daxing, Shenzhen, Harbin, Urumqi, Haikou, Sanya, and Dalian. Now on the airline’s 46 direct routes, passengers can travel with their pets in the cabin, ensuring a safer and worry-free journey.
With this service upgrade, China Southern’s “Pets on Board” service now covers a total of 9 destinations. Notably, several long-haul routes have been added, including Guangzhou-Urumqi, Guangzhou-Harbin, Sanya-Harbin, and Sanya-Beijing Daxing round-trip routes.
It is reported that since its initial launch on the Guangzhou-Shanghai Hongqiao direct route on December 12, 2024, the “Pets on Board” service has received significant attention and recognition from passengers. More than 30% of passengers who chose this service opted to purchase additional cabin seats for their pets. Passengers can purchase this service through the airline’s official app or mini-program up to 6 hours before their flight. They can choose to place their pets under the seat or purchase additional seats for their pets with access to services such as cabin travel, counter service, boarding passes, carrier protection nets, and travel insurance for pets.
Passengers bringing pets into the cabin must prepare Animal Quarantine Certification and vaccination record issued by the animal health inspection stations before traveling. Meanwhile, it is necessary to have an appropriately sized pet carrier and essential pet supplies, clean the pets in advance, and have the pets wear a muzzle throughout the journey. The detailed transport policies are available on China Southern’s official app or mini-program.
To date, China Southern has launched a range of personalized services for passengers traveling with pets that allow pets to travel alone or on the same flight with their owners, and even stay in the cabin. In addition, dedicated pet travel service areas such as the “Pet Inn” and “Pet Paradise” have been established at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. These facilities aim to provide comprehensive pet transportation services for passengers, and continuously optimize transportation process and services for pets. Going forward, China Southern will continue to extend its “Pets on Board” service to more stations and routes, and create cozy travel experience for pet owners and their furry companions, thereby enabling more people to enjoy better flights.
